Having been to Vietnam quite a few times now, I can say that I’m completely in love with the city of Hanoi. From the relaxing beauty of the Hoan Kiem District to the hustle and bustle of the Dong Xuan Market, it’s a place that I find myself coming back to time and time again.
One of the things I love is you’ll find all these cool hotels in Hanoi that offer incredible value for money. They’re a fraction the price in other major cities. You can get world-class city views, spacious rooms, and rooftop pools for a fraction of what it might cost elsewhere. If you’re looking for affordable luxury, you’re probably going to find it here!
With a beautiful blend of the old and the new, you can have a completely different Hanoi experience depending on which neighbourhood you choose. The Hanoi hotels in West Lake, for example, are likely to be more international due to the expat community, while the French Quarter is more likely to have historic luxury boutique hotels. I really like this area.
That being said, there’s a balance of tranquillity, culture, and of course, some of my favourite food in the world, around every corner in Hanoi. For example, you can stroll around the beautiful and relaxing Hoan Kiem Lake and then stop off to check out the famous Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre while you’re there. It’s the best of both worlds!

Where to stay in Hanoi
Old Quarter: If you want to be in the heart of the action and near Hoan Kiem Lake, you’ll want to stay in the Old Quarter. This is honestly the best place to stay for first-timers and you’ll find plenty of Hanoi hotels here. You’ll also be surrounded by the famous Hang Trong Folk Paintings which are essential viewing for anyone visiting Vietnam.
French Quarter: Do you consider yourself a lover of French colonial-style architecture? Well then, the French Quarter is going to be right up your street. With buildings that transport you to quaint French villages and Parisian sidestreets, but with unique Vietnamese vibes and culture, this neighbourhood has the best of both worlds.
West Lake: If you’re looking for a more calming base while you’re in Vietnam, consider staying in the tranquil West Lake neighbourhood. This is an expat hub, so you’ll find a lot of international residents, residents, and plenty of links into the heart of the city.
Ba Dinh District: Culture vultures are going to love a stay in the Ba Dinh District as it’s where you can find some of Hanoi’s best museums, including the Ho Chi Minh Museum. It’s also got plenty of greenery, bringing a calming vibe to your Hanoi trip.

If you’re looking for a luxury Hanoi hotel that’s bursting with history and old-world opulence, book a stay at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi. Having been open since 1901, I love how much of the original design inspiration is still present today.
Of course, as a five-star hotel, you can take advantage of a huge spa area, private dining rooms, and spacious suites. However, I think the location is the best part of this hotel, being situated just 160 metres from the Hanoi Opera House and 500 metres from Hoan Kiem Lake.
Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake
Located out of the main tourist districts in the Westlake area, the Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake is a sprawling Hanoi hotel that’s jam-packed with amenities. The headliner, in my opinion, is the giant outdoor swimming pool that seems to go on forever!
If you’re feeling hungry, take your pick of the three on-site restaurants, all serving different cuisines. Want an injection of culture? The Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake is just right next to the 800-year-old Kiem Lien Pagoda!
Lotte Hotel Hanoi
Looking to stay in the Ba Dinh District and want that five-star luxury? The Lotte Hotel Hanoi is on hand with massage treatments, outdoor swimming pools, and honestly massive rooms and suites, that give you plenty of space to stretch out.
The showstopper, however, has to be the expansive views from the amazing rooftop bar. With plenty of neon lights, panoramic city views, and a fun vibe, the Lotte Hotel is definitely one of the coolest hotels in Hanoi!

If you’re looking to relax after a long day of exploring Hanoi, head to the infinity pool, located on a balcony with stunning neighbourhood views. Honestly, I was shocked when I found out that this was classed as a four-star hotel!
Casa Dos Príncipes Hotel & Spa
Located just 300 metres from Hanoi Old City Gate, Casa Dos Principes Hotel and Spa is the ideal Hanoi hotel if you want to be in the heart of the action. The sleek and moody interiors make it the perfect spot for a cocktail or restful sleep after a big day in the city.
There’s a really great mix of contemporary design and colonial features throughout this hotel that blends the old and the new – just like Hanoi itself!

Want to be within easy reach of all the main attractions in the Hoan Kiem district? Check the availability at the Shining Central Hotel and Spa. Not only do they have a central location, but they also offer rental bikes as it’s a super popular cycling area!
